Monday Musings

IMG_0092

Highlight of the week: Lots of them! I had a really good time putting together my box for the Bookish Secret Santa Swap through The Broke and the Bookish blog. Some of my gifts are in the photo above (including the two books I bought for my partner) and I'm super excited about the nifty Harry Potter bookmarks I'm sending as well as the hat I made.

I also won a poinsettia and 2 hours of time off at work for donating to United Way. And Jarrod put up Christmas lights outside while I was at work on Saturday, so I came back to a beautifully festive home. And I finally got a new phone, an iPhone 6s.  And I had a free drink at Starbucks so I got a venti white chocolate mocha and sipped it while I finished reading "The Great Christmas Knit-Off." So yeah, it was a pretty good week.

Reading: I'm finally back to "Between the World and Me" by Ta-Nehisi Coates. This is a pretty powerful book about race and racism, but it took me a while to actually sit down and read a good chunk of it. I'm about halfway done and I hope to finish soon because I have a huge pile of books I'd like to get read before the end of the year! I also finished "The Great Christmas Knit-Off" by Alexandra Brown (a surprisingly good fluffy Christmas story; review to come) and read volume 2 of "Saga." One of my co-workers is reading "Saga" with me and it's fun to talk to her about all the random weirdness and the oddly addicting story.

Knitting: I whipped up a Slouchy Copy Cat Beanie for the Bookish Secret Santa Swap. I love the way the hat came out and I really hope my swap partner likes it too, big fluffy pompom and all.

Watching: We finally went to see "Mockingjay Part 2" on Saturday night. I loved it. The end. We also watched "Minions" on DVD; cute and funny. And I now understand the jokes my boss makes whenever I eat a banana at work.

Listening to: Christmas music. And more Twenty-One Pilots. And my wonderful parents included the new Adele CD in my Christmas box.

Eating: I've been trying a lot of recipes from Damn Delicious lately, and last night Jarrod and I made Chungah's Swedish meatballs. We decided to add some minced garlic next time, but the recipe was definitely a winner. The gravy was soooo good spooned over our mashed potatoes.

Looking forward to: The amazing mild weather we've been having is supposed to continue through the week. We have a high of 71 on Wednesday!

  1. A Busy, fun, week you had. Where did you find the HP bookmarks? Send me the Swedish meatball recipe. Sounds yummy.
