10 2017 Releases I Enjoyed and 10 I Hope To Read Soon

Right now I'm a self-imposed ban(-ish) from reading new releases. July is to be (almost) entirely devoted to reading older books, preferably pre-2016. The reason for that is it's really not been a steallar reading year for me -- and I think that's partly because I've read almost all new books. I decided it was time to focus on some backlist that I'd been meaning to read for ages -- and that I felt sure I'd like (and so far I have). The other day, though, I was in a list-y mood and I jotted down a handful of newer books I want to request from the library after my ban is over, and I figured I might as well turn it into a post!

First up we have 2017 releases that I thought were decent (and trust me, I read a few that I did not think were decent). I left off series continuations and only listed standalones or first-in-series. After that is a list of already-released 2017 books I'm looking forward to diving into come August!

Have you read any of these books? What did you think? What're your favorite new books for the first half of 2017?

    1. Guess what -- I just one "Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore" in a Goodreads giveaway!

Definitely read "The Dry." It's one of the better books I've read this year, AND it's the start of a new series. And it's set in Australia, which is a nice change of place.

    1. "The Chilbury Ladies' Choir" sounds like a such a lovely, quaint book -- like a Masterpiece period drama in book form! And it's got such a pretty cover.

I love book-y books too. Have you read "The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry"? That's my favorite bookworm book. ("The World's Strongest Librarian" is another bookish one that is more of a hidden gem.)

    1. Oh, I don't have all that much willpower. I already made a list of newer releases I'm going to request as soon as August hits! ;)

I'll have to check out your review of "Midnight." I just won it in a Goodreads giveaway!

  4. I read American War and though it was well written, it wasn't the kind of book I wanted it to be. I didn't feel like I really got to know the main character as well as I wanted.

The Fact of a Body is on my to-read list as well, but I have to read a whole stack of books for a book award committee and my library's community read committee so I have no idea when I'll finally get to it!
