Top 10 Book Covers I'd Frame As Pieces Of Art

I had so much fun putting together my contribution for The Broke and The Bookish's Top Ten Tuesday link-up this week. The theme is books with frame-worthy cover art.

I'll confess: I always judge a book by its cover. Unless it's been recommended to me or I've already heard about it, I won't pick up a book unless the artwork speaks to me. This is not always a good thing, because a lot of crummy books have really appealing covers. Take this one:

I kept seeing this come through at the library last summer and finally had to grab it. I just want to BE where that woman is, walking through that stunning garden at twilight. Except that the book was awful. I couldn't get through 100 pages before giving up. I eventually learned my lesson: working at the library I see tons of gorgeous books every week, but now I often check reviews before taking them home with me.

Anyway, here are 10 (plus a bonus 3) lovely book covers that I would totally frame as pieces of art. They're all books I've read or that are on my TBR list. I'm sure you'll see a trend here: I don't like covers with photos of real people on the front (most common with YA books); I like flowers and artsy covers, pretty fonts and happy colors.

10 Beautiful Book Covers

Bonus: Children's Books
Oh, how I adore all the kids' picture books at work. I take every opportunity I can to flip through them, not so much for the story but for the beautiful artwork. I've already decided that if we ever have kids, I'm going to decorate the nursery in book pages. Here are just a couple of my favorites:
This is a newer book -- about counting! -- that is full of the most beautiful illustrations. It will definitely be considered next time I need to buy a baby shower gift!

    1. I loved "The World's Strongest Librarian." It's a memoir written by a guy with Tourette's who becomes a reference librarian and a strongman. It was a fun and interesting read!

  2. Oooh, yes. I think I have very similar taste in book covers as you do, because all these covers really resonate with me. I especially love The Gravity of Birds and The World's Strongest Librarian. So lovely! I'm really glad you included some children's books as well! Illustrations on and in children's books are some of the best out there! Great picks!

    1. I totally agree about the gorgeous illustrations in children's books. Today at work I was putting away a big stack of kids' picture books and thought, "Ohhh, I wish I had remembered to include that one on the list... and this one... and this one..."

  3. Great picks!! I love the cover for the World's Strongest Librarian, and it'd be such a cool print. I am also obsessed with the font on Beautiful Ruin & the very european looking town.

    1. All the covers are gorgeous, but I agree that "The World's Strongest Librarian" would definitely look amazing if it were actually framed as a print. I love the art style, and of course the huge stack of books! I like the beautiful picture on "Beautiful Ruin" but the font really makes the cover.

  5. These are amazing covers. I loved all of them but The Gravity of Birds was probably my favorite. I would've picked up the Elizabeth Adler with that cover too - stunning! Too bad the book didn't match!

  6. I love this topic! You picked beautiful covers. You're right - some covers are so deceptive to the book lurking inside. The cover pulls you in and it's not the book you expected at all! :)
