This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic is all about one of my favorite things: food! I divided my list into two parts: the first is about books that mention a certain yummy food over and over, to the point where you just need to have some! The second half of the list is books I enjoyed in which food plays an important part in the story.
1. Cocoa from "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield
2. Cinnamon rolls from "Maybe in Another Life" by Taylor Jenkins Reid
3. Lemon bars from "Aunt Dimity Digs In" by Nancy Atherton
4. Snack cakes from the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich
5. Pancakes from "Agnes and the Hitman" by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer
1. "My Life in France" by Julia Child: the famous chef's memoir of her time in France.
2. "Kitchens of the Great Midwest" by J. Ryan Stradal: the story of a chef told through vignettes in which she is a minor character.
3. "Delicious" by Ruth Reichl: a young woman moves to NYC and gets a job at a struggling food magazine.
4. "Sweetbitter" by Stephanie Danler: a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of a New York restaurant.
5. "Quentins" by Maeve Binchy: set around an Irish restaurant.
I had a hard time with this week's topic so I kind of switched it up to town's in books I'd like to visit. I mean, most of them have pubs, restaurants, etc. so it's all good :) I enjoyed your list!
ReplyDeleteSo true! There are tons of fictional towns I'd like to visit, and the best ones always have special restaurants. Luke's from "Gilmore Girls" popped into my mind instantly when I read your comment, plus this adorable English country town from a Christmas book I read a year or two ago, in which the pub was the gathering place.
DeleteMaybe in Another Life so made me want cinnamon rolls!! I have Sweet Bitter and Kitchens of the Great Midwest on my TBR.
ReplyDeleteI loved "Kitchens" but I can also see how the book's set-up wouldn't be for everyone. Hope you like it! And I totally had myself a cinnamon roll after reading "Maybe In Another Life"! They're one of my favorite things to eat, but I don't splurge on them very often.
DeleteAhhhh I forgot My Life in France! I loved that book, although France had a big part in that little book flirtation of mine :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, yes! There was such a fabulous sense of French atmosphere! Made me want to visit even more than I already did.
DeleteI love that you included My Life in France and Sweet Bitter! I was struggling with this weeks topic and now that I'm seeing everyone's answers I feel a bit silly because there were so many fantastic ways to answer! Love yours in particular. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jessica! It was a bit of a tough topic for me too, since I haven't read 10 *good* books where food was a major star. But it was fun thinking back about books that made me crave something! "The Thirteenth Tale" instantly came to mind -- I drank so much hot chocolate while reading that book!
DeleteI love cinnamon rolls! It’s been so long since I had one.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Mmmm... I totally had one after reading the book last fall! I couldn't stop thinking about them! (And I splurged and bought one at the grocery store on a rainy day not all that long ago.)
DeleteMy Life in France has been on my TBR forever.. Now seems like a good time to bump it up! Loved reading your post..

It was so good! I picked it up on a whim off a sale cart without even knowing much about Julia Child, but I ended up loving it! So much atmosphere!
DeleteGreat list!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was fun to put together... though it made me sorta hungry! ;)
