Monday Musings

IMG_0529

Highlight of the week: We had a nice weekend. Friday evening and Saturday we were in Indiana visiting my grandma. Yesterday I got some tidying and reading done and started writing my Valentine's Day cards. And then, of course, we watched our Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl! (The commercials were disappointing, though.)

Reading: "Fifteen Dogs" by Andre Alexis, about a bet between Hermes and Apollo that involves giving human intelligence to 15 dogs. It's not bad, but it's not totally holding my attention either. At least it's pretty short. I also read an advance copy of "The Widow" by Fiona Barton last week. I realized it was the third novel set in England about a kidnapping I've read so far in 2016 -- it's definitely time to mix things up!

Knitting: Not a thing. Which is a problem!

Watching: "Burnt" (not bad -- and Bradley Cooper looks dreamy in a chef's coat), "Sicario" (also not bad) and "Home" (cute family movie, although the Rihanna soundtrack was kinda strange).

Eating: We made a big, delicious pot of copycat Red Robin chili to enjoy during the game last night.

Listening to: Phillip Wesley, the newest addition to my playlist of contemporary pianists. It's perfect music for reading or writing letters.

Looking forward to: My best friend Katie will be here for a visit this week! And "Walking Dead" starts back this Sunday. Sounds like a perfect Valentine's Day to me! ;)

  1. I was about to say it's been ages since I last did Valentine's Day cards, but not really given I do them every year for my daughter. I used to send them out to friends and family each year, but that fell by the wayside years ago. I am looking forward to reading The Widow. I hadn't realized it was about a kidnapping. I think I'll put some space between it and the two I recently read. I'm looking forward to seeing The Walking Dead again too. :-)

I hope you have a great week!

    1. I love sending snail mail and I couldn't resist those cards, particularly the typewriter one. (The inside says "I'm very font of you.") Does your daughter get to decorate a shoe box to make a Valentine's mailbox for school?

    2. They've never decorated shoe boxes, but they've used cereal boxes in the past. This year I believe they will be using bags they've decorated.

  2. I realized last night that I needed to figure some sort of Valentine card for my daughter for preschool on FR. I won't be home and I'm fairly certain my husband will not do it! Yay Broncos!!!!

  3. Love the Valentine cards. I've got to get on for my grandson. I thought the commercials were disappointing too.

    1. I felt like half of them were drug companies or CBS shows. And that horrifying "puppymonkeybaby" commercial was cringe-worthy!
