Yarn Along: "All the Winters After" and Cap Sleeve Lattice Top

Yarn Along is a wonderful weekly link-up hosted by the Small Things blog about two of the best things in life: knitting and books.

Reading: I've read the first couple chapters of "All the Winters After" by Sere Prince Halverson. It's about a man who returns home to rural Alaska after two decades away following a terrible tragedy, only to find a Russian woman holed up in his family's cabin. I'm not too far in, but I'm enjoying the writing style and the self-deprecating, slightly humorous narration.

This week I also read "Uprooted" by Naomi Novik, an enthralling fantasy(-lite?) novel that I happily awarded 5 stars. I blew through the entire 435 pages in just over two days. I absolutely could not put it down and I highly recommend it! Before that, I finished "Black Rabbit Hall," my Yarn Along book from last week. Here's my review.

Knitting: I'm making good progress on my Cap Sleeve Lattice Top (pattern from Purl Soho). I'm done with the back stockinette and have started the back lace, which makes up the top 5ish inches. The endless stockinette made for perfect TV knitting, but I'm glad for a change. This sweater is just flying by; I can't believe I'm nearly halfway done already!

    1. Thanks so much, Andrea!! I hope you've found some good books here. :) This is my first Purl Soho clothing pattern, but I've been ogling this top for a while. You're right -- their designs are usually simple and classic with clean lines and a modern twist. I've got a couple of their patterns bookmarked on Ravelry. And I did knit the Big Snowy Owl a couple years ago, and I think it still holds the spot as my favorite knit!

  2. What a cute little link up! You have infinitely more patience than I do when it comes to knitting. I've tried it in the past and just couldn't get the hang of it. Of course, I was trying to teach myself.

I read Uprooted last year and remember enjoying it, though it certainly wasn't my best read for the year. I just couldn't get into the forced romance between Agnes (that was I call her, cause I can't spell nor pronounce her name, lol) and The Dragon. I found the world building superb, though!

    Followed you via GFC. ^-^

    1. Hi Brittany! I think knitting happened at just the right time for me. I tried learning in college and just couldn't get the hang of it, but back in 2009 (how can it be that long ago?!) I took a couple months off work while my husband was in Air Force intel school and I needed something to occupy my time. I gave knitting another try, and it just clicked! I definitely couldn't have done it without the internet and all the helpful videos, that's for sure!
