What I Wore Wednesday

It's been a while since I've done a What I Wore Wednesday link-up with The Pleated Poppy. But now that fall's upon us, I'm breaking out the flats and sweaters and long-sleeve shirts and thought I'd share some of my outfits.

Do you have a fall fashion shopping list? I recently bought three plaid button-down shirts from Old Navy and a cute tan cardigan at Target, and I'm planning an excursion to the outlet mall in Cincinnati to check out the Banana Republic Outlet. I have plenty of fall tops, and nearly enough jeans (I'm still on a quest for a pair of white), but I'm having the damnedest time finding the perfect pair of boots!

The boots I have are a Hawaii purchase; I just bought some cheap-o ones from Payless since I knew they wouldn't be getting much wear there. But I wanted to splurge on some nice leather ones this year since -- if last February and March are any indication -- I'll be wearing them every day all winter long. Boots are ubiquitous nowadays, so I never thought it'd be that challenging to find a pair that meets my specifications. But the Great Boot Search continues... wish me luck!

P.S. Good grief, I just realized I'm wearing the same pair of jeans in all these pictures!

It seems a shame to pack away all those cute summer tank tops, so I like to layer them under light sweaters in the early fall.

This look is novel because my hair is in a ponytail! I hardly ever wear a ponytail outside of lounging around the house and walking the dog, but it is definitely time for a haircut and my hair and I were fighting with each other that day. I suppose it actually doesn't look half bad! And maybe with my curls pulled back, I won't get called "sweetie" and "young lady" and "kiddo" by random people all the time -- which annoys me to no end! (My husband maintains that my curly hair makes me look about 18 or 20... maybe someday that'll be a good thing, but right now I'd much rather just look 27!)

I wore this outfit to the Wool Gathering festival this weekend. It's a celebration of fiber arts, with tons of vendors selling yarn, accessories and handmade goods. Plus Young's Dairy, where the festival is held annually, had tons of pumpkins and gourds for sale, so of course we left with some of those too!

What I Wore Wednesday: Colorado Edition

Aloha from Ohio, our new home for the next three years! We just arrived yesterday, after spending a wonderful, relaxing week with my family in Colorado. While I wasn't crazy about the cold winter weather (which I believe will seem tame by Ohio standards), it was fun to finally wear some of the new winter clothes I bought in preparation for our move.

As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy to share my outfits. Happy Wednesday!

This was my favorite outfit of the week. I just love this sweater -- it's so cozy and soft!

I wore this to visit my brother at Colorado State University, my alma mater. It was so fun to see how much the campus has changed -- and stayed the same -- in the past five years. Go Rams!

I wore this outfit to see "Silver Linings Playbook" with my mom. We both enjoyed it!

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha and happy 2013! This year promises to hold lots of new adventures for my husband and me as we move from Hawaii to Ohio and get settled into our new home for the next three years. As much as I'll miss Hawaii, I'm getting a bit more excited to wear some cold-weather clothes. Since I can't wear flip-flops in Ohio in February I'm going to have to find an awesome pair of brown leather boots!

I'm pretty happy with the way my fashion has evolved this year but I still have a couple wardrobe goals for the 2013:

*Give leggings a try.
*Wear my J.Crew bubble necklace more.
*Find some shorts that I actually like! As you can see, I wear jeans every day even though I live in Hawaii -- the land of shorts and flip-flops. I just can't ever find shorts that are comfortable and fit right. But that's not going to cut it for Ohio's hot, humid summers!
*Stop buying clothes that I don't really LOVE just because they're cheap. Maybe take it a step further and go for quality over quantity!

As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. Happy first Wednesday of 2013!

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha! I'm trying hard to take advantage of the few weeks I have left to dress for 80-degree weather, though I have to admit I'm a bit excited about dressing for an entirely new season. After over three years of constant summer, it'll be fun to mix my clothes in different ways and unpack my sweaters from their boxes. Still... I think I'd take the same ol' clothes every day over a cold, dreary Ohio winter!

As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy to share my outfits. Happy Wednesday!

I really love the combination of coral and turquoise, and I just bought a long-sleeve coral top so I'll still be able to make this pairing when I've got to bundle up! (And, yes, I know this shirt looks carrot-orange in the picture but it's really a nice coral.)

I crammed my feet into my new flats for a dinner out. They desperately need to be broken in before we move and I have to wear them non-stop. But an hour or so was about all I could handle of them for now! On the plus side, I love this shirt, which is covered in little stars and lightweight enough to wear in Hawaii.

(I'm only wearing a sweater because we were going out to eat, and all the restaurants here are so cold inside!)

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha and welcome to my extra-long WIWW post, which has two weeks' worth of outfits! To celebrate Jarrod's return from Afghanistan, we took a wonderful trip back to our favorite Hawaiian island, Kauai. We relaxed, we beached, we ate ice cream. And now my mom is here for a week-long visit. It's shaping up to be an awesome October! I'm looking forward to posting more about our Kauai getaway once I have time to sit down and look through all the (800+) pictures we took!

As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy to share in the WIWW fun.

Yesterday we took my mom to one of our favorite spots on Oahu -- Laniakea Beach, a.k.a the Turtle Beach, on the North Shore.

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha and happy Wednesday! I'm about to go home for a visit and my mom suggested I look through my closet to see if I have any clothes I'd like to bring to sell in my family's summer yard sale. The real idea is that packing stuff that stays in Colorado will ensure I have plenty of room in my suitcase for all the things I'm going to buy in Colorado!

In case you haven't noticed, I'm in desperate need of some new sandals. Seeing as I live in Hawaii, that's pretty much all I wear! But this year, every pair of sandals seems to have straps around the heel. Whatever happened to flip-flops? I'm all about comfort, and straps galore are definitely not comfortable. So my awesome mom went to Kohls and bought tons of non-strappy sandals for me to try on when I get home. Thanks, Mom! (We don't have Kohls in Hawaii, can you believe it?)

As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy to share my outfits and get inspired by the hundreds of other WIWW participants. Have you ever looked at The Pleated Poppy shop? I have a petal drop necklace from the shop (which I wore twice this week) and I absolutely love it!

This is one of the tops that's hovering on the edge of the yard sale pile. I've had it since college (I can hardly believe I graduated FIVE years ago this month?!) and I'm not sure it's particularly flattering. I tried it with a belt but wasn't sure I liked that either.

WIWW: A Week Of Boots

Aloha friends, and thanks for stopping by this wonderful Wednesday! This has been a crazy week for me, between trying to spend as much time as possible with the hubby before he leaves for Afghanistan and starting my new job at the base library. I've only been at the library for a week, but I really get the feeling that I'm going to enjoy it once I get settled in. There's just something about being surrounded by books and book-lovers that feels comfortable.

On to the outfits! This week I decided to wear my boots as much as possible. After I discovered that it was just too darn hot to wear them out during the day, they got shoved toward the back of the closet. Not this week, though! I love all the boots + skinnies looks I see on WIWW every Wednesday and I was more than happy to join the crowd this week. Since Lindsey from The Pleated Poppy is on vacation this week, I'm linking up for the first time with Momma Go Round.

This aspen leaf necklace is my favorite piece of jewelry.

02-03-12 Awards Dinner
We went to a fancy-pants awards dinner on Friday night, at which my wonderful husband was selected as Officer of the Year! I was so proud, and it was fun to see him get dressed up in his Air Force mess dress. (This is the closest I'll ever get to seeing him in a suit.)

02-03-12 Awards Dinner1
We love Thai food, and one thing that's great about Hawaii is that there are probably just as many Thai places as Starbucks -- literally one on every corner! When we eat at a Thai restaurant, I indulge in a Thai iced tea (that's the orange conocotion I'm drinking in the picture). Soooo good, and a perfect foil to the spicy pad Thai I always order.

This is my favorite outfit for the week. I love the color of this top! (And yes, I wore the same pair of jeans three times this week.)

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha and Happy Wednesday! My outfits aren't anything spectacular this week --  with my husband gone for pre-deployment training I didn't get out of the house all that much. I went to watch the Broncos playoff game Saturday with some friends but I was decked out in Broncos gear for that, and after their pitiful showing I'm embarrassed to be seen in blue and orange right now! As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday to keep me accountable for what I wear when I actually do leave the house!

01-16-11 First Socks
I wore this outfit to a job interview. I hard a terrible time picking out something because the last "real" job I had was when I was a newspaper reporter and copy editor almost four whole years ago. Along the way I've gotten rid of a lot of my workwear as I outgrew it -- both literally and fashion-wise. This skirt and pair of heels are some of the last vestiges of my "real" job days!

Ah, this outfit. It was a big fashion leap for me to pair a turquoise necklace with a fuschia shirt. Normally I'd wear more neutral silver jewelry with something so bright, but I think it works. Unfortunately, while the outfit looks reasonably good from the front, the back is a hot mess!

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha, Wednesday friends! I'm still linking up with The Pleated Poppy this week for What I Wore Wednesday, but it's going to be a short edition because Jarrod and I are have been on an island hop to Kauai since Sunday, ziplining and helicopter riding and hiking and lounging on the beach. (If you feel at all jealous, don't worry -- I'll be insanely jealous of all of you in a few weeks when autumn hits and you get to wear sweaters and boots and watch the leaves change and warm yourself up with a hot bowl of chili on a cool day!)

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha again, Wednesday friends! I hope this Wednesday finds you happy and crafty! As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday. This week Lindsey issued a challenge to wear something thrifted. I did that, and I also gave myself a challenge: do my hair differently. I realized after participating in WIWW for several weeks that I have something of a uniform that I wear daily: jeans, flip flops, curly hair and a tank top or short-sleeve shirt. Boooring. So my goal for the next few weeks is to switch things up! I also decided to try the collage thing again this week... what do you think?

Thursday
Sweater: New York & Company, thrifted
Jeans: Rock and Republic, Pearl Harbor NEX
Petal drop necklace: The Pleated Poppy
Earrings: Hickam AFB BX

Monday

What I Wore Wednesday

Aloha, Wednesday friends! This week I decided to try something a little different to display my pictures. I admit I still have a lot to learn about blogging (like how to make my pictures bigger than the "large" option on Blogger and how to get them to appear less grainy) but I had fun making these little collages and I think they look cute! As always, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy for WIWW. (Speaking of The Pleated Poppy, I finally ordered a petal drop necklace from the shop and I ADORE it.)

Saturday
Ruffle tank top: JC Penney
White tank top: Target
Jeans: Seven For All Mankind, Nordstrom
Earrings: (Come back tomorrow for a better picture on my Inspiration Workshop post): Kohl's
Bag: Target

Monday
Pink tank top: Old Navy
White tank top: Target
Jeans: Seven For All Mankind, Nordstrom
Necklace: The Pleated Poppy

This week Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy posed a challenge to WIWW-ers to mix things up with an item they hadn't worn in a while. I bought this pink tank top in the spring and only wore it once under a sweater. It's a bit tight and I'm not sure I'll be wearing it as an outer layer again. But it was nice to change things up with a wardrobe item that hasn't seen daylight in a while. I've got plenty of those in my overflowing closet, and I'm going to try to incorporate them into my daily outfits more in the next few weeks (and all the ones I can't incorporate go in the donate pile!).
