Yarn Along is a wonderful link-up -- hosted by the Small Things blog every Wednesday -- about two of the best things in life: reading and knitting!
Reading: I finally finished up "The Lake House" by Kate Morton Monday morning. It took me over a week to read, which is a rarity, but it was 500 pages and we had a busy couple of days with buying a new car, so that's my defense. Last night I started "Orphan Train," a book I've been meaning to read for a long time. I only got a few pages in, but already it's different than I expected -- in a good way.
Knitting: My friend Jessie saw the picture I posted for Yarn Along a couple weeks ago of my teal Molly Hat and asked me to knit her one. I'm more than happy to oblige! She asked for purple yarn... which turns out to be remarkably hard to photograph. It's more of a true purple than it looks in the photo; there's not as much of a bluish tinge to the real thing.
Happy Thanksgiving to all you U.S. bookworms and knitters! I count plentiful yarn and endless reading material among the many things I have to be thankful for.

It's so nice when others appreciate your knitting. Purple is definitely hard to photograph! I have Orphan Train on my list.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to be asked to knit something -- especially something other than baby photo shoot props! I was more than happy to whip up a hat for my friend.
DeleteI'm knitting up a purple scarf for my son...who loves purple and are you ever right its hard to photograph! Have a lovely thanksgiving and I'm also thankful for yarn and knitting friends that inspire me!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you too! Hope you get to relax with some knitting tomorrow. That's what I'll be doing while football is on!
DeleteWhat an inspiring photo!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alina!
Deleteooooooh i LOVE it and it just so happens to be my favorite color!!! your picture is awesome, i really like how you incorporated thanksgiving and this time of year!! happy turkey day!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)
Deletewhat IS it about purple and camera lenses??? Outdoors/indoors--doesn't matter. Nice to be an appreciated knitter, though!!! :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I love it when people ask me to knit for them!
DeleteI love purple and knit a lot of things in that color, so I feel your pain. I once made a very chunky purple hat and when I finished and put it on my head it just looked like a big grape. I think I've packed it away somewhere, never to be seen again.
ReplyDeleteOrphan Train was a contender for my library's community read last year. I liked it a lot!
Haha, poor unloved grape hat. ;) I ended up really enjoying "Orphan Train." I really had no idea what it was about going in -- honestly I thought it was a WWII story -- and I was pleasantly surprised!
DeleteOoh that design looks lovely. It's always nice when people ask for knitted gifts I think!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elise! The Molly Hat is an awesome pattern -- this is my third one. I like that the pattern is really easy to memorize, so it's perfect TV knitting.
DeleteAnd I loved The Orphan Train. We must have similar taste in books!
ReplyDeleteI ended up really enjoying it! As I mentioned in one of the other comments, I didn't even know what it was about going in; it had just been recommended to me so many times that I finally decided I had to read it -- and I'm so glad I did!
DeleteMm I love Kate Morton, her writing is compulsive!
ReplyDeleteI loooooved "The Secret Keeper." Have you read that one?
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving! I don't know about you but it can be such relaxing knitting when the project is one you've recently finished and are making again. Your friend will just love her new hat I am sure
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tania! The Molly Hat is relaxing anyway because -- even though the pattern looks complicated -- it's actually really easy to memorize. Sometimes I crave a challenging knit, but other times it's nice to have something more simple. I actually took it with us on our drive for Thanksgiving and I didn't even need to bring the pattern!
