Monday Musings: It's A New Year!

2015

Highlight of the week: Reflecting back on the awesome year we had (see the above collage, which I cobbled together for Facebook). For me, 2015 was full adventures and a sense of finally being settled in and comfortable in Ohio, and I'm sad to say goodbye to it. 2016 is going to be a year of big changes as Jarrod's military career takes us back to Hawaii for three more years. New location, new job, new house, new friends... I'm already missing the easy contentment of 2015!

Reading: "Furiously Happy" by Jenny Lawson was the perfect choice for my first book of 2016! I loooooved "Let's Pretend This Never Happened," and though Lawson's new book is a little different, it was still totally awesome. I mean, how can a book with a maniacally happy taxidermied raccoon on the cover possibly be bad?! I finished it up yesterday and read the first few pages of a new psychological thriller, "What She Knew" by Gilly Macmillan.

Knitting: I'm about a third of the way done with the mermaid tail blanket for my friend's toddler. I love that I can work on it while watching TV. You can see a picture of my progress here.

Watching: Jarrod and I have been bingeing on "Orphan Black," a show about a girl who discovers she's one of many clones after watching a woman who looks just like her jump in front of a train. It is addicting! We've watched the first two discs of season one and I can't wait to watch more!

Wearing: My winter coat, for only the second time this season. It finally got cold here in Ohio!

Eating: The Pioneer Woman's chicken pot pie. Yum.

Drinking: McKenzie's seasonal reserve hard cider. Oh my gosh, it's like Christmas in a bottle! I already love hard cider, and this one has hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. It might just be a new favorite!

Following:
@JEFFMAURITZEN on Instagram. He's a National Geographic photographer and recently posted several gorgeous Antarctica pictures on his feed. Visiting Antarctica is high up on my bucket list and now I want to go even more! Penguins and glaciers, oh my!

Looking forward to: Watching the new Victorian-themed "Sherlock" special, "The Abominable Bride," which aired on New Year's Day. And watching the first episode of this (final -- sniff, sniff) season of "Downton Abbey," which came on last night. It's football bowl season so Jarrod has reign over the TV. But that just means I get to snuggle up with a blanket and a cup of cocoa to watch "Downton" later this week!

  1. Loved the first episode of the last season of Downton Abbey. What She Knew is one I want to read shortly.

  2. I love the collage of photos you shared. Here is hoping 2016 will be a good one for us all. You certainly have a lot of changes ahead of you. I wish you luck with the move. I love Hawaii, but the packing and the moving and having to start over. That's always a challenge.

I am eager to read Lawson's new book--or rather listen to it. I loved her first one. My husband is the one who first introduced me to the Bloggess. What She Knew is on my list of to read books. I hope you enjoy it!

I love Orphan Black. I've only seen the first two seasons though.

I hope you have a great week, Lindsay!
